clare sherriff : architectural historian
Clare Sherriff is an independent architectural historian and researcher, writing histories of private houses, commercial buildings and magazine articles. Her interests include the study of building types – her doctoral thesis was on the Edwardian Public Library – and related meanings. She is the author of two books, Oxford College Barges (2003) and Boathouses (2008) and has written articles on various subjects.

Clare won the Research prize at Winchester School of Art in 1996, and then read Architectural History at Bath before completing her PhD (2004) on The Edwardian Public Library at Newcastle University.

Currently Clare is researching ideas around architecture and health and has just finished building the Healthy House in Henley-on-Thames, a small 3 bedroom end of terrace which is chemical- and toxin-free.
